Water on top of 40 gallon gas water heater with power vent
We keep finding water on the top of our hot water tank, we took the power vent off and can find no leaks what else could we try? Is there a control valve to keep the cold air from back flowing and causing condensation? Where would it be located?

Most standard gas water heaters that I have seen will have a tee and cap located at the bottom of the long vertical run as a condensation trap. Others will actually have a hose that is supposed to collect and drain condensation to a floor drain or bilge pump.
With no info and no photo of how yours is ducted it's hard to say more than that. We cant see it.

Everything depends on the source of the water. Is the water near a seam, edge or hole in the top of your heater? If so consider the possibility that the water is rising up from below due to a leaking tank. This is more likely if your tank has some age.
Condensation like you mentioned is one possibility but that sort of problem would tend to occur each season and not start suddenly on it's own. But, it is possible the cap on top of the flue is damaged and now letting rainwater in.
Also look overhead for any other pipes that might be leaking and dripping down on top of the water heater.
