Whirlpool Water heater 5 flashes

So my water heater just started the 5 flashes which reads Flame out of sequence.
It is a whirlpool gas w/electric lighter. What's the issue and what's the fix? Any help
appreciated

Welcome to the forums.

I believe 5 flashes is an internal sensor problem.
Some units had a resettable temperature sensor down by the service door.
Some Whirlpool heaters are under a recall. The link takes you to Whirlpool to check.
Whirlpool customer support

Honeywell gas control valve information

Basically that code means the gas valve needs to be replaced.
I thought there was a way of disassembling the valve and resetting the electronics.

If your water heater is not subject to recall, I'd consider replacing it.

Whirlpool Water Heater

I have an electronis control valve. Can I replace it with a manual one?

Welcome to the forums.

Not too much information there.
I would doubt you could convert the water heater to a manual gas valve.
A manual gas valve would require a standing pilot which I don't think this model has.

There are numerous good reasons you won't find a new Whirlpool water heater.....anywhere. Lowes no longer sells them. If you are having problems with one I'd replace it and consider yourself lucky it lasted as long as it did.
