smelly water

water is from a well. the water is treated in the main house before it enters the "guest house". there is a seperate hot water heater in the guest house. the water smells like sulphur only in the guest house. could it be the hot water heater? if so, how do I clean the hot water heater? other suggestions much appreciated. thanks, -pwdarrah

How exactly is your water treated?

If you don't flush out the hw tanks on a regular basis there will be a build up in them.
What exactly is in there will likely be dependant on the condition of the raw water and how it is treated.

You could flush out the tank and chlorinate the well if chlorination isn't part of how your water is treated now.

Let us know more about your system and what is in your well water.

If you dont have an air tank on this pump just a bladder tank you might want to go look at www.championwater.com
They have a odor oxidizer that will eliminate sulfur odor from the water with out chemicals

how do I clean the hot water heater?
Shut off the power or the gas to it. Put a hose on the bottom drain shut off the cold water to the tank. Open the bottom drain. Then go and open the other hot water valves. If you see a lot of dirt in the water comeing out. You can turn the cold water back on and off to help flush out the tank. When done close the drain valve. Turn on the cold water . When water comes out of the hot water valves let it run a little then shut them off . Turn power or gas back on .
