I just had my water tested and have 1ppm of iron and 65mg/l hardness. I have a 32k capacity system and I was looking at using a lower salt setting to maximize my salt use. I've read that if you have iron in the water, you should't use the lower salt setting. As it doesn't fully regenerate the resin bed (with the lower setting), eventually the bed will become saturated with iron and lose its'' effectiveness. Appreciate your input on this subject. Everyone, I am a first time softener user/owner. One was in this house when we bought it. Its a Rainsoft unit, I had the local Rainsoft dealer come out our first year and perform "annual maint". According to the service ticket they replaced 3 O rings. About 6 months ago, we noticed a drop in water pressure. Shower and flushing toilet or running hose (we have stopped using soft water on lawn) would cause shower to have very low pressure... toilets fill slow etc. Had the utility company out to check our water supply pressure. They test before w/s 58psi and after w/s 48psi. I called a local water quality / softener company and was told my resin likely needed to be replaced (unit is probably 10-12 yrs old). That company also said they couldnt service Rainsoft ... proprietary or something. Any help or info provided would be greatly appreciated. How much should I expect to pay for a resin "redo" ? Does that even sound like the problem? How does bad resin restrict water flow? Thanks ahead of time everyone.... -ADAM
