Water remaining in water softener tank

I have a Sears single tank softener (just one tank hold both resin tank and salt / brine). It seems to cycle normally. After cycling I see there is about 2-3 inches of water left in the bottom. Usually this would be covered over with salt but I am very low - time for more salt.

Is it normal for that level of water to remain in the bottom of the tank after cycling?
Thanks

The water is there to dissolve the salt. I don't see a problem with the water being there. You are correct though, you need to be adding salt or the softener won't work. Good luck.

The 2-3" is normal, with low salt, you are not going to get the full softness.

If there a lot of "dirt" or inpureity, go ahead and clean it out with a wet vac.
