Water Test Categories for Water Softener

I am considering purchasing a water softener for my home. I have a deep well, with a pressure tank and Iron Removal System. I have read that a water test is the first step. A recent treated water test indicated the following:

PH 7.5
Hardness 5
Ferric 2
Ferrous 2

Are there any other water test categories necessary to consider installing a water softener?

The first thing would be to include the measurements with the results

Hardness 5 what? Grains? PPM?

On a well bacteria would be good to test for, manganese?

I would take a pre-treatment and post treatement water sample to an independent lab for a complete water test.

Then you'd know what is in the water and if it is being properly treated.

Thanks for your response, but my question was referring to what categories make up a "complete water test".

A quick "Google" gives ...

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dpd/healthywater/factsheets/wellwater.htm

http://www.inspect-ny.com/water/watrtest.htm

You have to "copy & paste" as HTML is turned off on these forums

Just for starters.
