Hi,
I want to install a whole house water filter & I need to know a few things. First, where should I put it - should I put it before the well pump or after? Second, does it make a difference if the filter is installed vertical or horizontal? Can I use flex tubing, like from a water heater, to ease installation? And lastly, my water supply lines are 1" diameter & the water filter inlet & out are smaller would water flow be affected by using smaller lines to get in & out of the filter? Thanks.

Hi Stewart,
First, what's in the water that needs filtering? Have you had a water test done? There may be other things that need to be treated inthe water. Whole house Filters are rarely the "magic bullet" in water treament, especially on well water.
Second the smaller 10" whole house filters will cut down on water pressure and volume. If you want a whole house filter you want to use the BIG 20" blue ones and maybe two of them in parallel.

Third, if you install a whole house filter it'd be after your pump and pressure tank but before your water softener, but maybe not depending on the water test results. You ought to put a pressure gauge before and after the whole house filter to monitor pressure loss so you know when to change the filter element.
Post your water test results.
