Kinetico repair manual
I have a 16 year old Kinetico Model 60 water softener in my house. We moved in 2 years ago.
About 3 weeks ago we noticed it that our towels have a somewhat sauer smell and the water (cold and hot) started smelling also.
The well water, water heater, and pressure tank do not have the smell. I turned the water softener off and the smell went away. Therefor I believe that I need to clean my water softener and maybe change the resins.
1.) Where can I get a repair manual for my Kinetico Model 60?
2.) What kind of resins do I need to use? Is there one with extra smell eliminating properties?
3.) Is there a special cleaning porcedure?
4.) Do I need to worry about the salty discharge water going directly in my septic tank and to leach field?
Thank you for your help.

I am having a hard time underastanding why you need a repair manual. If the softener is working properly and softening the water, then no adjustments would be needed.
Furthermore, a softener would have little effect on odors coming from the well. Your water quality may have changed and additional water treatment is most likely needed.
If you feel the softener has gained a bacterial problem, then sanitizing the softener--with caution and following directions--can be done.
For sanitizing a softener do a google search and there are numerous sites with good advice.
As for salt harming your sewerage, there is no need to worry about that. Very often the backwash rinse is some of the cleanest water going into you septic system when compared with high phosphates from detergents (which are not biodegradable), toilet water, and other soaps and detergents.
The amount of sodium chloride in the water from a Kinetico is small when compared with many other technologies.

Thanks for your quick answer.
I checked my well water and it does not smell.
I bypassed the Kinetico softener for a day and the smell was gone.
Therefore I assume the softener needs a good cleaning, and/or the resins may needs to be replaced.
Unless there is a way to clean the resins inside the tank.
I figured since I have to take the tanks apart to clean and/or replace the resins I want a repair manual.
I did not find any references on GOOGLE for cleaning/sanitizing a softaner.
Do you have any advise on how to clean or sanitize the softener? What kind of resin is recommended for Kinetico?
Thank you

If you have a water test done then you'll know what is causing the smell and how to treat it.
Sanitizing a softener, I Googled and found this for starters ...

Living on a well requires more routine maintenance and more knowledge than living on a water system as YOU are responsible for making the water SAFE and nice. You should be getting regular and complete water tests so you can catch any change BEFORE it causes any problems.
Better safe than sick.
