I'm looking into putting a water softener in my house and am looking for some impartial advice on whether the recommendations that I am getting are good for our water. We are on treated (not well) water, and there are two of us living in the house (with plans for 2-3 more within the lifetime of the softener). Our local independent water treatment professional has come in and tested our water, and is very familiar with the water situation in our town. He says that the water is very high in iron and in order to combat this, the town performs some kind of treatment that "sequesters" a large proportion of the iron within the water, with the result being that our hot water is often quite yellow/brown in colour. He is recommending we purchase one of the following two systems: 1. Kinetico 2040 - this is the less expensive option at $1300, and will effectively soften the water for us, but according to the treatment professional, this system will not remove the sequestered iron in the water, which will not rectify the yellow/brown water problem. In addition, in the professional's experience, when these systems are installed in our town, it is necessary to replace the filter on a nearly monthly basis because the sequestered iron clogs it rapidly. 2. Kinetico 4060 - this more expensive system ($3800) will both soften the water and remove the sequestered iron in the water. In addition, this system comes with an offer for a free reverse osmosis drinking water system. As I am new to this water treatment thing, I would appreciate any assistance/opinions you can provide on which one would be best for my water issues, and if in fact these are good options. Thanks!

my culligan medallist softener drains all day.i can hear water draining into my washroom,where the drain is hooked up.no error codes,3 years old.will regenarate then stops then water cotinues to leak. can any one help.
