Unhappy can't unscrew water filter

Any suggestions for trying to unscrew a stuck water filter? It is a Whirlpool whole house water filter. I have tried using the blue plastic wrench they gave me, and even extended the handle for extra fulcrum, but I cannot loosen it. I am afraid I will damage the pipes if I yank too hard. Any tips? HELP!!

Try turning off the water (duh, of course) and letting water run at a faucet until pressure is completely gone. When using the wrench try impacting it instead of torqueing it. Hit it lightly but firmly with the heel of you hand. You may need another person to hold the piping to keep it from breaking.

When you do get it off, never tighten it with the wrench...hand tighten ONLY. Never use petroleum jelly to lub it. Use only silicone based lubricants.

it worked

I had the water off, but failed to release the pressure. Once I did that, I was able to proceed. Thank you AndyC!!

No problem. Again, just hand tighten.
