water softener brine tank doesn't always refill
yesterday my wife said the water felt hard. i checked the brine tank to see if we needed salt. when i checked i noticed there was plenty of salt, but the brine tank had no water in it.(i looked in the tube that surrounds the float valve) i manually recharged the softener and checked it a couple hours later and the brine tank had the normal amount of water in it. the softener was scheuled to recharge again that night. when i checked it in the morning, the brine tank did not have any water in it again. any ideas as to why the brine tank would fill intermittently? would a sticky float valve shut-off prevent the brine tank from refilling?

No water in brine tank
What model system do you have ?
Some only add water to the tank previous to a regeneration, allow percolation or cantact for a few hours and then draw it out, leaving the tank dry.
If you have one of these tank fill first/proportional/variable/fractional brine systems, then that is a normal condition.
