Hello everyone. I recieved a Culligan Mark 89 water softener for free that was apparently in working order. I got my water tested after the softener was hooked up and Culligan said it was 23 grains hard which is pretty hard. So I took the salt tank apart and found major salt brdiging in the bottom of the tank about 4 inches think was just solid white rock. So I cleaned that all out and did a manual regen and waited a week and assumed everything was working. I took in another water sample just to see if water was soft and the lady said nope not soft. She advised me of a screen on the top of the head that I could check. And sure enough I checked it and it was plugged one spot there was so much junk on it, it had actualy eaten a tiny piece off the screen. So I cleaned it ut it all back togetehr and that is where I am at now. The questions I have are: 1. It doesnt seem to be regenerating by itself. Is there some adjustment on the regn wheel and the wheel on the bottom i makes contact with taht activates the regn cycle? Or is there any sycrohnization of the regen wheel at all with nay other component in the head? Also is there any general cleaning tips for this unit. What can i take apart and clean without screwing something up? And help is great guys. Thanks Matt

I have a GE GXSF27e01 Smartwater Water softener. No soft water. I have run the diagnostics and everything seems fine. I cleaned the Venturi and replaced the Seals in it. The unit is only 4 years old. It goes through the Regen cycle just fine. One thing though, there is only about an inch of water in the bottom. From what I remember it used to be about a third full of water before? It has been a few months since it has stopped working and I am finally fed up and wanting to do something about it. Any suggestions? Thank you very much.
