Water softener brine tank problems

I have a 180,000 grain water softener with a fleck 2750 valve.
In the brine tank I have a grid, a safety valve and float inside the well. There is a huge block of salt under the grid and I am unable to get to it to break it up. Can I use a chemical to break up the salt? I am unable to clean the brine tank and refill it with salt because of this problem.

You can use hot tap water poured down the brine well to dissolve the salt block. It may take a while but it will work nicely.

If your brine tank is near your water heater a hose from the water heater drain to the brine tank is quick and easy otherwise it's bucket by bucket.

You can cut down on that salt problem in the future by only keeping enough salt in the brine tank to cover the water.
