Installing water softener

Hi All,
I brought a TH home without water softener. I plan to purchase Morton System Saver 30,000 Grain Water Softener from Sam's club. And hire a plumber to install for me without calculating what I need. Is that smart move? There will be just me living there.

Any input will be highly appreciated,
Heidi

The Morton system is similar to the ones made by Ecowater and sold under Kenmore, GE and other brands. It uses a rotary valve system that works fine for average of 4-5 years. After that you may require replacement of the seals, rotors etc. The resin in those systems usually lasts for 7-8 years under city water containing chlorine.

For the same amount of money, you can purchase an industry standard 2-tank unit with Fleck controls from many internet dealers. These units are are better built and last longer. You will find many threads in this forum discussing them.
