Red face How to bypass cold water when installing water softener

Hello all,

We bought a Kenmore water softener last weekend. My husband and his friend (a welder who has a little experience with this) installed it. They couldn't figure out how to bypass the cold water - can anyone send instructions as to how to do it or direct us to instructions? I may not be able to access this area quickly so could you also reply to 3greenlines2blue@cox.net?

Thanks so much for your help!!!!

How do you soften only the hot water?

Sorry, my earlier message wasn't very clear - what I meant to ask is, how do you plumb/pipe it so that the water softener only softens the hot water? They set it up so that the water pipe goes into the water softener, from the water softener into the water heater, and then from the water heater to both hot and cold lines. The last part is second hand information - I've never heard of both hot and cold water lines coming from the water heater - but I could be wrong! Wouldn't be the first time! LOL.

Thanks again for any/all help!

Barbara
