Using EXCESSIVE salt in water softener
I have a kinetico model 60 softener and I noticed last friday that my brine tank was completely out of salt, so i went and purchased 5 80lb bags. I filled the tank back up till there was only enough room for 1 more bag. Today (1 week from when it was filled) the brine tank is now halfway empty and you can see the water, i had to put 2 more 80lb bags in the tank. I use to go a few months with only having to add a bag of salt, now i go through a 160lbs of salt in a week? nothing has changed in our water use, just the usual shower, dishwasher, and washing machine.
Any ideas/suggestions?
Thanks

A couple of things could cause it. You have a leak causing the unit to regen more oftem or the float assembly is allowing more water than is needed into the salt tank. To check for a leak, shut the main water valve off and allow about 5 min. As you turn the valve bach on, listen for water flow. If water flow is heard, you have a leak somewhere. To check the float, measure the water depth. IIRC should be 15-18"
