Hello I just bought and installed my water softener. I understand allot about it other than the hardness settings. My better judgement tells me the lower the number on the hardness setting (which my softener comes preset to 20 hardness) the softer the water. My gpg is 350 hardness and i'm in the city. I guess my question is should I have a lower setting than 20 because my water doesn't feel soft and everything actually seems the same.

350 GPG hardness is unheard of. You may mean 350 PPM. At 350 ppm that calulates to 20 GPG. The water is either going to be soft or hard. You don't get softer water with a lower number. The unit should be set at 20-22 GPG
