low pH, high iron - now what?
Inherited an existing 2-tank neutralizer/softener RS system
that needs replacement. There is a cartridge filter installed after the softener.
Here's my water analysis - I took the sample before the RS system.
pH: 5.5
Hardness: 50 mg/l
Iron: 3.4 mg/l
Manganese: 0.15 mg/l
Sodium: 18 mg/l
After reading this forum a bit, I was considering the Fleck 5600 option. (that I was quoted $3000-$4000 installed!) Is this option capable of dealing with the low pH AND high iron?
Four people in the house - two adults, two kids 6 and 4, two baths.
Any input/advice is appreciated.
Thanks!

Wow. 3-4 THOUSAND? You can buy a Fleck 5600 metered demand for $650.00. You do need the raise the Ph. You are talking maybe another $500.00. Pay an installer $300.00 for both and you got the job done for less than $1500.00.

Yea, after getting that quote I planned on doing it myself. But I just didn't know if the pH or iron levels required anything beyond or additional to a metered demand 5600.
I'm also interested in figuring out the proper sizing of neutralizer and softener.
1.5 cu ft neutralizer? 48k grain softener? Thanks.

1 cf each would be fine. The Ph neutralizer should be an in & out valve that is hooked up backwards. Meaning you want the service flow upward through the neutralizer. It keeps the media from packing.
You don't need to add more equipment. The neutralizer and softener will give you great water.
