Water Softener
I am installing a water softener and there is no floor drain, but there is a hard pipe for the discharge that is 1/2". How do I connect the rubber pipes to the hard pipe?

Does you area have an air-gap regulation? This where the drain line must be free, unattached an elevated above the drain recepticle to prevent siphoning back into the softener, which is rare.
I am assuming the drain from the softener is 1/2 inch right? Not the actual drain line that would carry water to the septic or someplace, which are usually much larger.

What I have seen builder do in Fla is run the drain line outside and not connect it to anything. They do cap it off. Find out where the drain line runs to. You can hook the softener to the 1/2" pvc using pvc or go to Lowes or Home Depot and buy a 1/2 male thread x 5/8" quick disconnect and 5/8 tubing or 1/2" male thread x 3/4" quick disconnect and use 3/4" tubing.
