I'm looking at a used Quad 51 softener/filtration system. The seller says he bought the system about 10 yrs ago, about 6 of which he's stored it unused inside his warehouse, but he says it worked fine. It hasn't been in use now for a couple years. My digging suggests that if something is wrong with the unit when installed it could likely be repaired. I'm wondering if it will do the job required. We're on a deep well (140') and the water is super hard. We get lots of scale but no apparent rust stains. Had a softener guy come out to look a few months ago who did some tests and said we had 90-95 hardness (10=hard and 0=target) and 1780 TDS. Any thoughts on whether the Quad 51 will work, or other, are greatly appreciated. My wife will strangle me if I don't get the water soft soon.

Hi All, I'm in the bay area and looking at the Kinetico 2030s Mach series twin tank water softener. AAA water system gave me a quote of $2695. Does that seems reasonable or should i be able to negotiate a lower price from them? Also my friend says I should have a pre filter installed to trap solids 5 microns or above and to remove chlorine before the water enters the kinetico softener. Is this recommended? Will the Kinetico dealer install the pre filter for me? thx, Jeremy
