Last week after 7 years our Waterboss gave up the ghost. Very low water pressure upstairs. When I bypassed it and saw the difference it must have been decreasing for a while. I called them and they said it probably just needed new resin due to chlorine in my city water. Rather than take the whole thing apart to change resin and pray that I get it back together correctly, I decided to get a new system based on stuff I read here. I figured if the chlorine was causing the resin to fail, I wanted a system that would make it easier to change. I ended up ordering the Fleck 5600 metered system from Ohio Pure Water. I got the 40,000 grain capacity. I got it all hooked up last Saturday and everything with no problem. Just wondering what settings to put this on. Here are my stats. Hardness 21 iron .35 manganese .045 # of People 3 I measured the flow rate in one of the bathtubs and measured a little over a gallon in 6 seconds which I assume comes to about 10 gpm. This is with nothing else on and the softener in bypass. I set the Fleck to a hardness of 21 and 3 people. Per Ohio Pure Water, the Salt setting is at 12lbs. Do these settings seem about right? In a another month, my son goes back to college and then there is just the 2 of us until next June. Should I just leave the settings alone? Just making sure it is set up to get the best life out of the new system. Thanks for any input. Mark

We've had a sales guy out here (we're in Utah) really talking up the Avantapure. This business claims to sell the upper end Avantapure. Right now there's a slightly used (as in 30 days of use) model that he's willing to install free of charge with an RO system for $1895 total. I'm really not sure what to believe. I don't know a whole lot about water softeners yet. I know we have 10 grain hard water. The only specs I have on the unit are that it's 54,000 grain and has a 1" valve all through it. We have 5 people living here. Should we pass up on this? Thanks for any info.
