Red face Rainsoft Gold Series power failure auto -regen

I was hoping to find some advice. We purchased and installed a 4-yr old Rainsoft Gold Series water softener to replace our 11-yr old Amazon unit. Everything seems to work well except when there is a power failure the system kicks into regeneration as soon as power is restored (even if the until has just regenerated). Additionally, at least the first time this happened, the unit regenerated over and over again until we stepped it through to turn it off. I don't know it there is some internal battery that needs to be replaced or a wire we didn't hook up? I am not a big fan of the Rainsoft repair department though the units work great. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can you send a pic of it? I have worked on them but only know the style but sight. If the timer motor is bad, the unit may regen over and over.
