Hague Watermax

I am thinking of getting the Watermax for my home because I want more then just softening. The cost is less then it would cost me for a separate carbon system and a water softener. Hardness of my water is 13 grains and my concern is if it has enough softening capacity to handle my home. I have 5 people living in my home.

Is there anyone out there who can share their experience with this device that have almost or a more demanding environment then I have.

Many companies mix carbon and resin in the same tank. I don't really care for that. By having a separate carbon tank, your volume is much greater and will last longer; and it it will be much easier to replace the carbon when you need to and you will need to.

Always consider future maintenance issues when choosing equipment as well as overall service.

Kinetico model 60 brine tank over-flowed!

I woke up early Wednesday morning to find my 8 year old water softening system's brine tank over-flowing out of the over-flow nozzle, thus soaking my basement floor and carpet. This also caused my well pump breaker to trip and ultimately resulted in a short in my well pump wiring.... could have been much worse I guess. When I contacted Kinetico to tell them about the problem, they were less than sympathetic and just speculated that it may be a problem with the float valve ($120 fix) or the head valve ($600 rebuild)... and of course, it would cost me a $240 house call to find out which. Has anyone encountered this particular problem with thier model 60... and if so, is it something I can fix without giving in to the $240 house call?... Water softener selection - What's wrong with the big box varieties?

Hey All, I need to replace a kenmore water softener. the unit is about 15-20yrs old and stopped working over the summer. I was simply going to go to one of the big box stores and pick one up off the shelf (bigger is always better, right? :D). Then I decided to come here first before making the trip. I have been skimming the posts and it seems like most people here avoid the big box off the shelf. why? Am I making a big mistake just going to pick up a 40,000 grain softener? Also, given what i have been reading, I assume I should figure out what type of water i am dealing with. Any suggestions for the best way to go about testing/figuring out what the exact paramaters are that i am dealing with? thanks!Read More
