Kinetico model 60 brine tank over-flowed!

I woke up early Wednesday morning to find my 8 year old water softening system's brine tank over-flowing out of the over-flow nozzle, thus soaking my basement floor and carpet. This also caused my well pump breaker to trip and ultimately resulted in a short in my well pump wiring.... could have been much worse I guess. When I contacted Kinetico to tell them about the problem, they were less than sympathetic and just speculated that it may be a problem with the float valve ($120 fix) or the head valve ($600 rebuild)... and of course, it would cost me a $240 house call to find out which. Has anyone encountered this particular problem with thier model 60... and if so, is it something I can fix without giving in to the $240 house call?... I'm pretty handy but have never tinkered with anything related to this.
