water problems HELP NEEDED!!!
ok ive been reading on here for about 2 years and trying new things as the money come up.
here is the back story. bought the house in jan 08. the house had a Kenmore single tank unit from sears. i don't believe it ever worked. i delt with it for 6-8 months and decided i would go get another unit from sears just so it can plug and play. with the hardness level maxed out, the water never seemed right still
i delt with it for 8-10 months until i got a really good deal on a kinetico model 100. it has the black tanks. i installed it. and let it do its thing for 2-3 months. the water still was staining clothes and leaving rusty deposits.
so i had kinetico come out and test the water and put in a #4 disk. they said my water was only 2 grains hard.
my wife is a redhead and has never stopped complaining about her hair turning rusty. and on top of that my well pump died and i had to drill another well(casing caved in). and on top of that now the water smells like sulfur. i know ive read on here to remove the anode rod from the water heater. guess what it never had one to begin with. looks like the previous owner removed it. and its a glass lined water heater if that makes any difference.
my question is. how to i get this water to be as close as possible to city water. how do i keep it from ruining all our clothes? color clothes come out extremely faded. washing whites is out of the question. how do i get the sulfur smell out? having slimy water is out of the question. wife is about to get a divorce. NEED HELP
i may be missing things i tried. but here is the water system...

And again what is the Hardness and iron in the water?

[QUOTE=lawrosa;1856972] they said my water was only 2 grains hard
i cant tell its rusty untill i fill the tub then you can see the light brown/red color
they went 85' deep wich seem on par with the original well
yup rotten egg smell. funny thing is after bleaching the well even the filter went from black to white in 5 min lol
well i didnt remove it. it was gone allready. maybe it needs a new one what should i buy?
almost did last sunday......where do i send it? is there a kit? im in columbus, ohio btw
Water is rusty?
How deep? Did you go deeper? Possibly you could have eliminated some issues.
Rotton egg smell correct? Bacterial Iron....
Anode should never be removed.
Move..... or marry a brunette.... Just kidding. You need to get water tested to determin what is in the water before you can even begin to treat it.

When they reapired or redug the well it should of been certified. Ask them for your results and post them here.
When they chloronated the well itshould of taken care of the smell. Did it smell before? You could try just sanitizing the HWH and add a anode.
They should have chloronated your lines though. What filter turned white?
Solutions to Stinky Water In Water Heaters
The color might just be because the well is new. Need to run the water out a hose for sometime. Days? It should work it way out, or you could have a iron issue. They drilled a whole new well. correct?
Your softner may be fouled with iron and needs a treatment of rust out.
Go to the home store and find rust out and follow the softner instructions.
Get a anode per that link and sanitize the HWH
Get your test results and post back here.
Print this out and put it on your dashboard.

You most likely have multiple water issues but hard water is not one of them with a hardness of only 2 grains.
Your first step should be to get your water tested.
I suspect your water is acid--so correction via an injection system or a backwashing filter with calcite or calcite corosex blend depending on pH.
You apparently have high iron so an iron filter (but iron filters must be carefully chosen depending on water conditions). Alternatively you could use chlorine injection followed by a retention tank and a backwashing carbon filter.
Chlorine injection will also deal with the sulpher as will some iron filters.
If you use calcite to raise pH then that will also put some additional hardness in the water and a softener might be desirable.

A local testing lab is generally best. Check the yellow pages or your local ag extension service for suggestions. At a minimum you should test for bacteria, pH, hardness, iron, and manganese.

You answered your own question, there is 2ppm of iron coming through the system. Unless the softener is set to operate properly you will always have iron (staining, red hair) coming through system. So either live with softened water or you have the problems you are having now.

Well ater issues...
Just hook up an ICS Pack and be done with it!!
Injected Chlorination System is what you need.
You are on "WELL WATER", you should want to kill off any bacteriac's, Chlorine will oxidize the iron for removal in the carbon tower and the chlorine will also "KNOCK OUT" that sulfer as well.
Just do it right..... one time....... with what you really should have.
If you happen 2 have additional issues such as specific tannan's or excess in iron......then you simply add a small tank for that issue, but a Chlorination system is clearly what you need all around, and you'll actually be FILTERING YOUR WATER ( cleaning and purifying it ) vs merely just MASKING IT A LITTLE.
ans still being left with overall issues.
Sound's complicated.....? Not Really.
A/. UT-120 tank (for reaction time),
B/. a Flow switch (with it's own outlet/cover and cord attached) from Grid Controls,
C/ a Solution pump from "Stennar" maybe OR "Uni-Dose"( I preffer a stennar pump with a regulator on it),
D/. a solution tank( for your actual chlorine solution mix),
E/. A large carbon tower( I use "Fleck 5600" head unit's/backwash only, OR a IONIC/PURONIC "IQ" head unit's)-"never anything else".... for removal of.....
+ F/. and G/. a softner w/ brine tank....... *again I preffer "Fleck 5600" series unit's or an IONIC/Puronic "IQ head unit" on a F/G tank only for my softner's or other media filter systems. I never touch anything else-Fleck all the way or a PURONIC "IQ" head unit on a F/G tank, ( you just use a transition fitting in place to account for the differant thread size so the Puronic head will go on a standard F/G tank).
You could do this.........
or this............
just sayin'

I wish I had the answer, but tell your wife, STOP USING THE WATER!!!!! I have long curly red hair and I mistakenly continued to use the softened water after it was tested and I was told the typical nonsense about my "real" slippery skin. Its a lie. My hair became a brassy color, it became le ss curly, but frizzy and hard, clumped and dry. I finally stopped using the water. It took weeks of expensive salon treatments and haircuts to correct.
I worked for years to get a mortgage and I can't live in this home because of the water. These so called professional water testers are just softener salesmen IMO. As a redhead, I feel your wife's pain. Please warn her so she doesnt ruin her red hair!!! I've been lugging distilled water for cold uncomfortable rinses, but at least my hair is ok again.
Good luck friend
