Kenmore Water softener with no brine draw

I have a Kenmore water softener (625.348470) that will not draw the brine out of the brine tank. In fact in adds water in the brine cycle. I have done the following to isolate the problem:

Cleaned the parts in the venturi assembly

Sucked on the brine tube. Got a mouthful of brine. No obstructions

Put the system on bypass and slowly opened the bypass while in brine cycle. Water shoots out of one of the openings only.

Figure 8 seal looks OK

Water drains from unit with no problem. Drains works in all cycles

Emptied the brine tank and cleaned it out.

Any help will be appreciated.

Age of the unit and water quality that the unit is dealing with?
Could be an internal seal leak depending on the water quality.

Place unit in draw cycle and disconnect brine line from venturi. Put in bypass and wait a few minutes. Put back in service while feeling for a draw. If the unit draws for a short period than refills, check for a drain restriction. If not, replace rotor seal and fig 8 o ring. FYI You have to watch both openings for about 30 sec to see if the fig 8 o ring is leaking by.

Hi,

This place has all the troubleshooting tips you need to find the cause.

They also have every part for your unit except the ECU.

I think the unit was installed in 05 and the hardness setting is set at 40. I did bleach the well which brought up a lot of junk. I bypassed the water softener but may have turned it back on to soon.

No suction whatsoever, just water going to the brine tank. Will pick up parts tomorrow and give it a try.
