water softener maintenance/repair

I am going to buy a water softener and am wondering which brand/model is easy (acquiring parts, no special tools, etc) to maintain/repair? Also, the most reliable?

The most reliable on is the Fleck 5600. It is easy to work on and the parts are available at a lot of different places. The Clack also makes a good unit if you are into electronics. There parts may not be available except for dealers which drives the prices up.

Does the 5600 require any special tools? Any thoughts on the Fleck 7000?

There is a special tool for removing the seals and spacers but I don't use it. I just use my fingers. The 7000 has electronics IIRC. I am not into electronics on water treatment equipment.
