Problem with water softener Series 255 Valve/460i

I am no longer getting soft water from my water softener. I noticed that the check valve is closing too early in the brine cycle. The brine tank is full with water and salt. Prior to the start of the brine cycle the check valve is full of water and the ball is floating on top. When the brine cycle starts, water starts to flow into the check valve from the brine tank for about 45-60 seconds. Then the water level in the check valve starts to drop and then the ball seals on the bottom of the check valve. I have performed the preventive maintenance on the valve and the symptoms have not changed.

You have an air leak between the brine tank and the check valve. Check for a cracked line or disconnect the stem that goes in the brine tank and pinch off the line when the unit is in a fill cycle. This may show you were the leak is.

That was the problem - thank you

I used a teflon tape on the hose coupling that connected the brine tank hose to the check valve and that solved the problem.
