Life Span of a Master Water conditioner - Neutralizer

We had our service folks out today to check the neutralizer/softener today. We do this once a year. They said that we need a new unit. He cannot add any more resin to the neutralizer. (MS something). He said the options are he can rebuild the our current unit and keep the head or replace the whole thing. Our unit is almost 11 years to the day.

He said all water tests on our well water are fine except the pH. It's less than 6.5.

We have maintained the unit well over the years. To me, this seems pre-mature.

Cost to rebuild $500. Cost of a new unit: $1700 (unit and install).

Any suggestions?

Why is the resin up for replacement?
Calcite can be added to and at last time that I checked there are no limits on calcite or mag ox...

What would the new system use ?
