Ecowater 500-type softener.. panel overheating ?
We have a fairly old (20yr ?) Ecowater "518".
5 yrs ago the control valve started hanging up in some random position. I rebuilt the seals, changed motor, lubed points, etc.
If I got into the menu's, I could advance the mode forward and it would be fine, every time. Eventually, we discovered that if we left the cover off, it would run fine. In fact, it's been running with the cover off for 4 yrs or so now.. not a problem (knocks on wood).
But.. with the "head" cover off, the brine tank cover doesnt make a good seal. Salt vapor (I think) is slowly eating away the metal bits near the panel etc.
I put aluminum "duct" tape there, and it seems to help.. but really the solution would be to figure out why the panel is overheating ?
Anyone run across this, and a fix ? I dont think you can buy the panel board anymore..

Never thought of checking the voltage under load..
If its due a re-gen tonite, I'll see if I can find a couple of points on the board to check the loaded voltage. (although I dont know what the original loaded voltage is, I could at least compare idle to loaded volts).
Apparently, its a GE/Ecowater/Sears part.. 24v a/c 400mA
