Water Softener problems [Relocated post]

Ok...My softener is not using the slat either. If it is...its very slowly. Ive checked the fittings, nothings obviously leaking water or sucking air. It back flushes correctly and on schedule. If i stick my hand down deep in to the salt, its damp. Without dumping 75 lbs of salt out, Im not usre how to check for a salt bridge. What do you think???

Welcome to our forums.

Moderator note: Relocated ppost to it's own thread.

It would be helpful to know exactly what make and model your softener is and it's capacity.
Also some details about your water as if it is a well or municipal, etc.

One thing that might be obvious is that when you put your hand into the brine tank the salt should be more than damp!
Brine is water that has the maximum amount of salt in solution it is capable of holding.
IOW it is water saturated with salt.
Most brine tanks if you were to put in two bags of salt the water level would be above the salt level.
There is likely a problem with the brine tank fill part of the cycle.

Give us more info and someone should be able to help.
