Removing kitchen sink air gap to install RO system

Hi everyone, we're getting ready to install a Fleck 7000 water softener unit with RO filter.

When talking to the service rep, he mentioned that since we don't have any additional holes in our sink, he will install the RO faucet where the air gap currently resides.

Initially, i didn't think much of it, but upon reading some more- looks like the air gap is critical as it stops the dirty water from the dishwasher to backflow.

any thoughts? is this a pretty standard way to install RO system if you don't have predefined slots?

TIA!

You need to check your local code. In CA air gaps are required, dunno about TX

Airgaps are a good thing. It prevents sewage water from coming in contact with house water. I would not allow them to remove the airgap. In fact, check to make sure they are installing an airgap faucet.

thanks! i'll check. also, is the air gap faucet in addition to the airgap for the sink? or were you meaning that if they remove the airgap, they should atleast install an airgap faucet?

The airgap faucet is in addition to the airgap for the washer.
