Question Ice maker dumping water into tray with cubes?

We have a Maytag refrig, with pull out lower drawer. That is where the ice maker is located.

It drops 3/4 its production of ice in the tray, but also is dripping water onto the tray which freezes into a big chunk.

Any ideas on the problem?

Thank You,

A common problem is the water fill valve not shutting off completely allowing the tray to overfill as well as the fill area in the back becomes full of ice.

That doesn't sound like what you are describing.
Do you feel that the ice maker is harvesting the ice before it's all frozen ?

No, it dumps GOOD cubes, but then at one end it must be dumping UNFROZEN water in the tray causing a big chunk.

Thanks,

If it does this routinely..... try this. Empty the ice bin. Allow it to harvest a load. You should be able to see the ice tray.... see if the cube count matches the ice tray.

The only way it could dump water is if all the cubes were not completely frozen. You'd see small cubes and maybe some hollow.

Look at the back of the ice maker. You should see where the water fills from the back of the fridge. Is there ice built up there ?
