Softener and Filter

Do I need to install a water filtration system after the water softener the guy at Home Depot told my client that it was a good idea

Did your client have his water (well or city) tested by a certified lab...and what were the results ?

FWIW, I have my [well water] filtration BEFORE the water softener. Originally it was after but I had to routinely disassemble and clean the nozzle & venturi assembly. Now I do that about once a year, if that. On city water either way would probably be okay (assuming you even need the filtration, which is where Yadda was going with his Q I suspect).

If sediment is a problem the filter should go in front of the softener to protect the venturi and valve from clogging.

I have a sediment filter on the water line coming into my home. I'm on a well and early on I was getting some sediment from the well. Now though the filter really isn't needed.

I'm going to start collecting all these home depot wrong recommendations!

As noted you want to filter first to keep all the down stream components clean. This is so fundamentally basic that I find it hard that anybody would not question!
