Water softener full of water - what's that mean?

I was a long-time contributor here, mostly in the electrical forums. Now, I'm hoping I can get some help before I call a pro, which I will certainly do if this isn't something I can handle. I'm a tradesman in electrical and HVAC with a fair amount of plumbing experience as well, so I should be able to, IF we figure out what needs to actually be done.

I've done a fair bit of research, and none of the pages I've read or videos I've watched have been specific enough for me to fix this. Before I call a water softener specialist, maybe I'll get lucky and someone knows exactly what I need to do first. After that, I'll gladly pay the man for his expertise.

I installed an AO Smith water softener from Lowe's. The one with the pressure tank inside the salt tank for space-saving. This one: A.O. Smith 45000-Grain Water Softener System, Item #960798.

It worked just fine for six months. Then, the entire salt tank filled with water. I did a bunch of research about how that can be caused by clogged lines and some stuff I couldn't even locate. I drained it, cleaned it, checked what lines I could access, and cursed the engineers who designed this thing and my own self for getting one that was so cramped to work in. Within a month, it was full of water again. I tried calling the tech support line at AO Smith. Exactly as I expected, it doesn't work. After going through the menu, and inputting the required info like serial number, it automatically hangs up on you.

Anybody know what causes this and how to fix it? Yes, I've watched several videos on YouTube, and can't find anything that addresses a model like this, or that I can figure out how to correlate.
