Repairing Security Cages- Beginner- Help!

I have a vending company and we use security cages around our machines. Occasionally, the steel grating gets kicked in, and needs to be re-welded to the frame. I have been paying to have these repaired, but would like to do it myself.

I want to purchase a machine that can spot weld the grating back to the steel frame. Suggestions for an inexpensive machine to do the job? We're talking maybe one use every 3 months or so at the most for repairs.

This forum seems pretty knowledgeable. Your guidance is much appreciated!!

daveyamo,

A 250 amp, ac/dc stick welder would do it for you.

If these are stainless, get yourself some 5/32" 680 rods. There AC/DC and easy to use, the can make a fair welder look good. They aren't cheap but worth it for stainless.

There used to something about welding using a 12 volt battery. Maybe someone can provide info about it. Might be just the ticket for spot welds and portability.
