Question Powcom 300 ss? Need info!

I have a chance to buy a Powcom 300 ss tig machine for $200. I don't know anything about tig welding but would like to learn. I was told the machine works great. It looks to be in very good shape.
Can anyone give me some insights about this machine?
Can it run on 230 single phase?
Is $200 a good deal?
Will I need to purchase any other equipment to use it (foot pedal)?

Stick and TIG machine

Whether $200 is a good price or not depends on several factors.

Can you perform reasonable stick welding now?
Does the unit come with the TIG torch, pedal, etc.
If you already have leads for a stick machine, you should be able to try it out before buying it. Also see what size circuit breaker it runs from.
The SS stands for scratch-start or lift-start. No high-frequency starting.

Rebuilt models are available at http://www.arc-products.com/powcon/

I am not sure that this machine will weld aluminum. The 300 ST appears to be designed for TIG. The 300 SS appears to be a stick machine. If it does not have hi-frequency and is set up for AC TIG, it's just a nice inverter-based stick welder.

Call Arc Products during the work week and see what their rebuilt machines go for before investing in this unit.

stick and tig machine

Thanks for the info IBM5081.

The unit does come with the tig torch but not the foot pedal. I would only want this machine if I knew for sure that it would do aluminum. I check with arc-products.

Thanks again,
