Cool A welding project that I did when I was a beginner

Here is my FTP site that has pictures of a Wolf Bell that i did.

my instructor knew the cylinder gas guy from praxair really well and he had a prearranged agreement will him that any old cylinders that didn't pass the hydro pressure test, he would turn over. my instructor promised not to use them for the original purpose and destroy them so they could not be used in that way again. he would basically start cutting them up so we could practice welding pipe. you could probably buy some failed cylinders for scrap cost.

i made this bell the last part of my senior year in high school. towards the end of the year we were given a challenge to come up with something artistic. i guess that would make this almost ten years old!! yikes!! well the round part is an old cylinder that didn't hold. it is 7 inches round, 7 inches tall and a 1/4 inch thick. i used a band saw to cut it to what length i wanted. then i put on some 1/4 inch thick plate steel on top that i had cut to a round shape with a cutting torch. i then welded it on the sides and ground off the weld so it was flush. the wolf is made out of 1/4 inch plate. i also cut that out with a cutting torch. after i cut it out, i touched it up by grinding in some jagged edges to make the fur and mouth and such. i used a big nut for the ball inside to strike the bell. the wolf's eye is drilled out and where i put an S hook to hang it. like i said before this is made out of steel so i had to paint it, i though silver would look nice. rings really good, and sure does make a good dinner bell !!!

next time i get a chance i will show you a couple other projects. post ya later, keep burnin the metal.
