welding rotating table

Any body have any plans or suggestions to making a small rotary postioner for welding. I have priced them and they are a little high for home use. Thinking I could build one cheaper.

Thanks

One that I have seen uses a circular welding surface that is horizontal. It is connected via a vertical shaft below to another smaller circular surface that is rotated using the weldor's feet. No electricity, no computer control, completely human powered and controlled. The shaft continues through the bottom plate to a bearing below. The whole apparatus is supported at the edge of a conventional welding table.
Is that the type of device you were considering?

That will be a bit more expensive to create - some type of stepper motor and a foot control. How about the motor and control from an electric sewing machine? Reversing is typically a manual process.
