Refinising a wrought iron aquarium stand

I have a wrought iron aquarium stand that is about 15 years old and has some surface rust. I'm selling it all and want to do something to clean up and refinish.

I plan on coating it with black rustoleum, which is handy b/c I have some laying around.

Anyhow, how do you recommend I strip the rust off? I'm guessing use an angle grinder with a wire disk and blast it off? Should make short work of it and the old finish, I'd assume.

Thanks,

Matt

Sounds like a good plan. If it is ACTUALLY just surface rust, you could use steel wool and then wipe with a rag before painting. Good luck.

Well, it's rusted beyond steel wood but not by a lot. I'm confident a wire disk on the angle grinder will do the trick. I don't get the chance often to use it and make sparks, it will be fun.
