cleaning rust off sheet metal

I have a large piece of galvanized sheet metal that's been rusting outside for about six months. Anyone know the best way to go about cleaning the rust off? I've tried scrubbing it with steel wool, which got rid of some surface rust, but it's still far from shiny.

Are you planning on painting it after the rust is cleaned off? A sanding disc for a drill or disc grinder will probably clean 99% off. When galvanized starts rusting the zinc is gone and will need to be primed and painted.

Thanks, dude. I need to glue stuff onto it, but the glue won't stick right if there's a lot of rust. Looks like I'll have to get a sanding disc.

you might try white vinegar and a wire brush, it works a lot better than you would think.

Navel jelly also removes rust. It's available at the hardware.
