Hello, This is my first posting to this website. I wish I had heard about it earlier - could have saved me some money!! I have a beautiful satin-brass standard lamp. Basically, it is a hollow brass pole on a brass base. The brass base holds a piece of heavy stone to give weight it. The pole has been broken off in a house move. The pole was fixed to the base by screwing it into a brass 'ferrel', which is about a quarter inch deep, and which was once stuck onto the brass base. The brass ferrel is still screwed onto the pole. It needs to come off (simple enough) and be fixed onto the base's centre where the wires thread through. So, my question is how can I afix this small brass piece to the brass base so that it is strong enough to hold the pole and large lamp shade? Bear in mind please that the area of adhesion is only a 1 and 1/4 inch ring, the circumference is only 1/8 inch deep! Is there any really strong adhesive that will bond brass to brass? Many thanks. Can't find a general area, and not sure if this IS related to welding or metalworking. THought it may be a plastic explosive, but it failed all tests. Smells similar to sulphur and feelslike clay. Anyone have any idea? A guy's storage unit had at least 12 of these in plastic vials. He was elderly and a diabetic, a former salesman that sold home alarm systems, etc...
