Copper pipe brush
I got one of these. For cleaning copper pipe before soldering.

I works good but its heavy duty. Leaves scratches. Would you use this pre solder?? I know sandpaper
leaves grooves deep enough to leak. I could hit the copper with a plastic pad to mellow out the scratches I guess. But in your experience is this really made for
copper pipe as opposed to battery terminals.??

The scratches are there for a purpose. It's part of the cleaning process and helps form a stronger joint. Scratches from sandpaper and cleaning brushes do not cause leaks. The solder flows into the scratches and seals them. The fine scratching also provides some mechanical teeth to provide more surface area to further strengthen the solder to copper bond.
