Strange overflowing Septic tank

Okay, forgive me and my little knowledge of Septic tanks and systems.

We got this house around 18 years ago. We purchased it just after the last owner had put in a pool in the backyard. Upon putting in this pool they screwed up the septic field lines and the yard became mushy and muddy. We called specialists to have the problem fixed and a new system put in after we got the house. Now, this new system (we have had it for years but lack the money to fix it) still overflows to the point that you could just about bury yourself in the mud it makes just by stepping into it. I have been told the system we have does not have field lines at all; but instead just has a central box that has a hump or arch on the top. This box is supposed to do the work that the field lines do, but without the lines themselves. Is this wierd? Can I fix this by myself for cheap?

Thanks,
Andrew

I'm afraid not.
Call your local Health Department for an inspection and permit to correct the problem before it gets worse. (It will.)
Good Luck!

What is code there. Can you just go in and put a new field in yourself. It dont take a lot of know how just work. Check library there for how to books. Are code might have some papers on how they want it .
