jet pump making high pitched noise when running
anyone give me a hint as to why my jet pump is making a high pitched noise when running? it seems to be running a bit longer than usually but is still turning itself off. but, it is making a sound, and if it's anything like a car that can't be good. still have plenty of water. is it the pump that needs replacing? not enough water in the well? Help.

Could be a bearing going bad. They can be replaced.
There is a shaft seal bearing between the electric motor and pump impeller assembly that might be it.
You'll have to take the pump apart, or get someone else to do it, to find out.
Good lucK!

thanks mike,
my dad is coming to look at it tomorrow. i believe it is a bearing. the water flow stays good, no smoke anywhere and it turns itself off. i'm lucky in that i have a spare motor handy but i'm not able to do the work myself and finding a reasonable plumber ain't easy.
another question: what is a good size reserve tank for a home with three occupants and a whole lot of laundry. i only have a 15 gallon right now and figured if i'm replacing the pump i may as well replace the tank.
