No water for 2 days. Just replaced the pressure tank because of a leaking bladder. Now pump hums. If the pump case is off of the pump it runs, but when reassembling after replacing the impeller etc with a kit the pump will only hum and won't turn. It is a 1/2 horsepower jet pump. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi nowater,
- sounds like whoever rebuilt the pump either didn't screw the new impeller down enough or forgot to change the seal.
The casing is impinging on the impeller, preventing the pump from turning
been there etc. -a common mistake

As nomind alluded to, the pump is locking up after it's reassembled. Make sure the impeller is threading all the way on. Some pumps (Goulds, Myers to name a couple) have the guide vane that bolts over the impeller. Make sure all mating surfaces are clean. After bolting the guide vane on, make sure the impeller will rotate without rubbing, then reinstall in the pump head. Use a new rubber seal if you have one. On other pumps (like Jacuzzi) you have to install the guide vane in the pump head first. Again, make sure the mating surfaces are clean. Usually, the guide vane will only go in one way. Jacuzzi uses a notch in the case that aligns to a raised area on the guide vane.
Once the whole pump is put together, try turning the motor from the rear access. If it turns easily by hand, it should work fine.
