This morning I woke up and flushed the toilet and to my suprise the toilet wasn't filling back up. I went down stairs only to hear the watersoftener trying to fininsh it's cycle. I trotted over to the pressure system (8 months old Red Jack air tank with a submersible pump - Well is 102' and water was found at 34' test pumping rate is 4 gallons per min) only to find the pressure was hovering at 0 - 5 psi. Since then I bypassed the watersoftener, let a little air out (no water came out) of the pressure tank and turn off and on a couple of taps to see if the water pressure would return. It would flop up and down going sometime as high as 30 psi and go right back down to 0 again. So far the pressure has returned to 42 psi (the system will start at approx 28" psi and ten shut of at around the 50 psi mark) and things seem to be back to normal. I still have the softener bypassed. I am having a sneaky feeling that my water softener may have suck my well dry and might not be functioning properly as I not getting as much soft water as I would like. I have more questions concerning my watersoftener so I will post them on the proper forum. How can someone tell when they are running low on water or do I have another problem on my hands? Dear DIY Community, I'm seeking input for the following question: Given the restriction of finding the answer ONLY through PHYSICAL INSPECTION of a house (and possibly clues in the yard), what would be the easiest and/or quickest way to determine if the house is using a Septic system or a public Sewer system? Please do not suggest me to call anyone to find out this information. My desire here is to seek out this knowledge from the home experts of this community. In addition, I'm not especially fond of the "color/condition of the lawn" technique because I do not trust my ability to tell color/condition. A little background: I'm looking at a house to buy and I am aware of the fact that some of the nearby houses are using Septic system. On the real-estate listing sheet it says "Water Sewer: SEW-SANIT", which suggests SEWER, and which is what I want to have. I call the listing agent to confirm about this and he was not quite sure about it (the owner has recently passed away and the house is sold by a trustee who knows very little about this house). The city's record on the Water Sewer item for properties has been notoriously inaccurate (based on my past experience). Thank you for any input you might have. hsieh
