Cap old well?

Bought my house last winter. Previous owners explained to me a newer well was drilled further from the house than the old one and the line was tapped into the old line. They had planned to and suggested for me to cap the old well to stop water from flowing into the basement. Which has only happened after very long periods of heavy rain. Can anyone help with what capping a well is, how to, etc.? Thanks

If you're going to abandon the well, you'll need to check with the local authority for the requirements. Different areas have different rules for doing that. You may find out why the previous owners never did it.

Cap well pump - please help

I too am having a terrible problem. We purchase a country home one year ago and out well pump is in the basement. There is also the old well about 8' away from that pump. Water comes up in the basement about 2 foot or more three times now. We have already lost an $800. water heater and have replaced it, but fear it will be lost next time. I am terrified the furnace will be next. If anyone can tell me what to do, please tell me. Please email me at ********* Thanks and God Bless, Bowman

Just wondering if you found a solution to your problem and if so perhaps you could pass it on. Country homes and surprises, last spring our sump pump never started and this year it can't keep up. The water coming out of the old well won't let up.
Thanks alot!!
