Jet pump too Submersible pump

I currently have 6 foot pit with a 110v Jet pump/tank in it and an 80 foot well. I would like to know if it is possible to replace the jet pump with a submersible pump. I am really tired of messing with leaks/prime problems and the noise of the jet pump.

Yes, it is possible, as long as the well is cased with at least 4" casing. You'll need to know where the water level in the well is, etc., in order to size the pump properly. You shouldn't need but a 1/2 hp, or 3/4 hp, at most.

I need to drill a well...can anyone help?

I need to drill a well for irrigating my lawn. I drilled one with my Dad when I was young but all I remember about it is using the slide hammer to put in the casing. I live in Central Florida where the ground is sandy and the typical irrigation pump goes about 25 to 30 feet deep into limestone. Can anyone help me? I would like to know what the best drilling technique is and what size/type of casing is recommended, etc.. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Read More

A week ago, we noticed that our well pump was cycling on and off every 20 minutes even when no water was being used such as in the middle of the night. The pressure tank was drained but that didn't solve the problem. A new jet pump was put on but the problem only got worse. It went from 20 minutes to 15 to 7 to 4 and we shut the pump off. We thought maybe it was the foot valve in the well. We called a plumber and he said we should replace everything for $2000. We asked if we couldn't just get it fixed, but he said it would cost just as much for labor so we should upgrade. That would include a submersible tank and pressure tank. My son likes the jet pump because you can see the gauge and said that is way too much money since our well is only 80ft. deep. He also had the well cap dug up so the plumber could look into it. We are now without water since we turned the pump off and it lost its prime. My son feels he can fix it but we don't know which way to go. Could it possibly be the pressure tank that is the problem?
