Is it hard to replace submersible sump pump?

I have a sump pump in my "crawl" space under my house. The pump is about 7 years old and appears to be dead. It rained real hard last night (got about one inch) and I now have about 4-6 inches of water above the grate opening in my crawl space.

I have tracked down a Zoeller 1/3 HP model that I plan to pick-up to replace the other one.

Should I pick-up or rent a portable pump to suck water out first before attempting to replace with the Zoeller? Or can I do this without removing the water first ??

Are these easy to replace? Is it just a matter of pulling up the old one (all I know is that it is bellow the grate) and disconnecting the PVC? ( and power of course) Not sure if it fastened down somehow or just sitting on the floor....

Any feedback would be appreciated... don't do much work with plumbing, etc.

Thanks ... clueless in NC...

Not really

The pump normally just rests on the bottom of the sump pit.
Here is a web page with a couple of diagrams.

Not all that difficult to replace, but being in a crawl space may make it harder. You don't have to pump out the water before replacing it.
